About Carlos Creek
The apple trees are currently in full bloom at Carlos Creek, and the beginnings of next year's wine are just starting to appear on our vines.
Carlos Creek Winery was founded in 1997, and the doors to the winery were officially opened in July of 1999. There are 160 acres of land, of which 10 acres are dedicated vineyards and 15 acres are planted to 22 different varieties of apples. Our grape varieties include Frontunac, Foch, Valiant, Swenson Red, La Crescent, King of the North, and Edelweiss. Our apple varieties include Cortland, Fireside, Haralson, McIntosh, Regent, and our largest planting, Minnesota's state apple: Honeycrisp.
Carlos Creek Winery is located in the only designated American Viticultural Area in Minnesota. An American Viticultural Area (AVA) is a designated wine grape-growing region in the United States with distinguishable geographic features. AVAs specify a geographical location from which at least 85% of the grapes used to make a wine have been grown. Growers must petition to designate an area as an AVA. The designation is based on such characteristics as an area's topography, soil type, microclimate, elevation and, to some extent, historical precedent. AVAs range in size from several hundred acres to several million. AVAs are essentially a geographic pedigree for wines.
Our grounds and several of our buildings make ideal settings for your wedding, bridal shower, groom's dinner, or corporate event. Our event arena is 12,000 square feet, and can easily accomodate groups of 500. For information and pricing, contact Tyler Bredeson, our sales manager, at tyler@carloscreekwinery.com.
